Coaches

Meet Bart Goodell:

Bart was born in Berkeley, Ca. and raised on a small farm in Fortuna, Ca.

He had the good fortune to be raised around animals and a father who was very patient with an energetic young boy. His mother fed him well and taught him to stand tall and straight. His father taught him how to rope, ride horses and treat animals and people with respect. He learned the meaning of hard work by watching them both. The richness of the environment that he played in each day with trees, uneven ground and barbed wire fences to jump over prepared him well for sports. He excelled and was better than most, especially in football, rugby, baseball and track. While watching Bruce Jenner in the '76 Olympics, Bart found what he wanted to do, the decathlon. His life had meaning while working out and competing in the decathlon. It became a way of life or a way of growth in his life. Bart didn't realize his dreams of going to the Olympics, but the processes of growth through the training have persisted after the competing.

Bart has been coaching track and field for 25 years both collegiate and most recently at Carlmont HS in Belmont, Ca. He imagines he will be coaching for the rest of his life as he finds it a wonderful way to pass on some of the knowledge and the little wisdom he has garnered so far. He now knows why all of his coaches did what they did, love.
