| A Day In the Life |
|
As one can imagine, training for 10 events can be very time consuming. It takes a very strict schedule, an unyielding work ethic, and a ton of patience. Any successful person, in any facet of life, is going to face all three of those characteristics!
It takes a huge supporting cast and a dedicated individual to succeed in life. Overall the most important thing to keep in mind is, if you are not enjoying whatever the task is at hand, it is time to stop, reevaluate, and move on to the next thing. As for me, my day starts around 7am, with a good solid breakfast. Don’t want to show up to training on an empty stomach and no energy! Training usually starts at 8:30am and runs to 11am, give or take a few minutes. From there it is off to eat, shortly following I head back to the Track to coach the CSM Track team. That runs until 3pm (again give or take), where I start my private coaching at www.decasportsperformance.com, coaching athlete’s of all ages, sports and levels on their Speed, Strength and Conditioning, their overall sports performance. Once I finish Coaching, I then take some time to myself to either lift weights or work on my event techniques. On a typical day I finally reach home base around 8-8:30pm. Now it is time to eat dinner (if I didn’t prepare it earlier and eat it at the track)!! After dinner I like to unwind with SportsCenter, a movie, or go lay in bed with a book (typically non-fiction or a biography); I love to read about people, their struggles and successes in life. Prefer to be in bed or asleep by 10pm every night, although sometimes that just doesn’t happen. Every day is a new adventure with new goals and responsibilities. I love the fact that I get to spend just about every day outside on the track (or the field), training or coaching, two things that simply allow me to have peace in my life. It is a great experience to be able to share with my athlete’s the joys, along with the woes of training; there is definitely a mutual respect that is shared. |
