What is it that gives the spirit inside of us the power to withstand pain, disappointment and fear? How do we find the resiliency to stand up after we have been knocked down time and time again? Inside each of us there lies a power that is not easy to summon, not easy to accept. For if we do accept it, we realize that self-pity is unacceptable. We come face to face with the fact that we do have the ability to overcome hardships without the blame of another to fall back upon.
With great power comes great responsibility, a responsibility that we need not be afraid of. . . a self-awareness that if realized, could change the world as we know it. Can it be that simple? No, of course not, inner peace in a human being may be the most difficult to achieve. Although, without it will we ever see world peace?
It starts with one. I vow to release my inner doubts that have been ingrained into me. I vow to help others release theirs as well, so long as they continue the movement. This is how I will change the world.

Throughout this amazing journey I often get asked if I am afraid to fail. My answer to that question is failure would have been not taking the chance to train and realize my dreams. This question always makes me think, and honestly I find myself pondering on the meaning of failure, or the perceived meaning. Maybe the answers that we search for in life are not found in books, songs or in the wisdom of another. Maybe the truth we are searching for is found only in our mistakes and failures…for at that moment we realize what the answer is not.
So maybe we should erase the negative connotation from mistake and failure, and embrace them as our friend and teacher. Mistake and failure cannot be bad…for without them would we have the desire or the motivation to achieve at a higher level, to succeed above expectation? To not find truth or hope in a false step is simply a lost opportunity not a failure…for it does not deserve the respect that failure carries.
So take control of your life. Don’t be afraid of failure, the only thing to fear is living without taking the chance to live out your life the way you choose. Yes I agree that it is not an easy task to take that chance or any chance for that matter. But as you go through life, and you contemplate your time on this earth, ask yourself this question…How do you want to be remembered?

It has been a while since the last entry, but with valid cause. We (my coach and I) have been focusing on the balance of life and training. Over the last two months we have been finding ways to make my training and my life more balanced. I have definitely had to look inside myself to find what it is that will allow me to stay strong on this amazing journey that has begun. Along with the dream of the Olympics and utilizing the gifts that I have been given, I have also longed to acheive the highest level of education possible. I have decided to finally begin that process. As of April 5, 2010 I will begin the process of attaining a PsyD in Sports Psychology at JFK University in Pleasant Hill, CA. I am extremely excited to start the next step in higher learning. The lessons I will learn during the process will also tremendously contribute to my training, the two go hand in hand.
To find balance in life is one of the hardest things we as humans are faced with. We are pulled in so many directions on a daily basis that it makes it near impossible to slow the brain down long enough to focus on any one thing. This is when balance is most needed. How do we find it? Well I think that is inside of us, in the faith we have in ourselves and who we are made to be...individually. It takes a silent confidence to understand balance; a confidence that allows one to have an understanding of the little things in life that satisfies their soul. So search yourself, find what makes you smile, think back to being carefree and alive. What was it that made you excited to wake up and start your day? What is it that frees your mind and eases your soul? If you can answer those questions, add them to your daily routine in some manner (no matter how minute it is). Allow your heart, mind and soul to be free for just a moment each day and balance will find its way.

This week we focused on finding one's authentic self. Too many times we try to force the issue and get away from what our mind and bodies are naturally built to do. We get tense; we force the issue and typically over think the situation. It is so vital that we learn to trust our authentic instincts, using them to move and think in a free form. Once we learn to do so, we are able to be more productive without the frustration of reinventing the wheel. The body and mind are built perfectly for every person's path in life, we find our problems when we step outside ourselves and allow outside forces to influence our progressions. Learn to trust what you have been given and you will find yourself in a better progression in life.

This week we focused on the idea of knowing the body. Overtraining can be a huge detriment to any system. Learning when you can "push" or when you need to "take a day" is something everyone can use in their daily life. Too many times we decide to take door number one and push ourselves beyond the limit we should. Stress is just as much an inhibitor as any, and when we allow too much stress to enter the system, we break down. Whether you are in the board room, cubical, or track you need to find that fine line that seperates "overtraining" and knowing when to test the limits.
Take some time to yourself to play with this. Find what is stressing you in your life and make an adjustment. Mental health and well being is the driving force to being able to reach new limits on a daily basis. Get to know yourself and your limits so that you can conquer them and set new levels!
